ARMENIA THROUGH NEW EYES

Located at one of the world’s important geographic crossroads, Armenia offers a unique culture developed from a gathering of ideas from a number of cultures. When making your summer travel plans, consider exploring Armenia, and see if you can identify the variety of influences.

If you are a fan of architectural heritage, you will want to make sure that Gyumri is among the places you explore. Hundreds of historic structures, representing a melding of these outside influences, make up the Kumayri Historic District at the city’s core. Sadly many of them are at risk of being lost after being damaged in a severe earthquake in 1988.

This endangered architecture needs to be seen and admired by new eyes in order for its value to be appreciated. Join a group of international participants at Adventures in Preservation’s hands-on workshop, assess the situation through your own eyes, and help save Armenia’s heritage.

The workshop, entitled City Center Recovery & Conservation Efforts, is scheduled for June 19 – July 1, 2010; space is limited for register early.
