PAT TAYLOR
ADOBE CONSERVATOR
Patrick Taylor grew up in Mesilla, New Mexico where he still lives,
surrounded by historic adobe buildings. He became a carpenter and general
contractor in 1976 and shortly thereafter began building in adobe. In
1988 he started specializing in adobe restoration, working on residential
and commercial structures, many of which are on the National Register
of Historic Places. The following year Mr. Taylor became a member of
the Doña Ana Conservation Committee that was organized to restore
the town's adobe church, Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria.
Since then Mr. Taylor has continued to work for non-profit organizations
as an adobe conservation specialist. He has been employed by Cornerstones
Community Partnerships since 1995. His focus is two-fold - to restore
historic adobe buildings and to organize community involvement in the
projects. Much of his effort is directed at working with youth in the
community to teach them traditional adobe handling skills and building
techniques. He has received awards for these job-training programs which
improve employment opportunities for the youth participating in the
program.
Mr. Taylor is also co-founder of TICAL, International Workshops in
Lime. This organization offers workshops bringing together leading regional
experts in lime plaster from Mexico and the southwestern U.S.
