SIMON HERBERT
ARCHITECTURAL CONSERVATOR

Simon Herbert is Director of the Arkansas Institute for Building Preservation Trades located at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas in Helena, Arkansas. His involvement in historic preservation work began as assistant head carpenter on a restoration project in the Hudson Valley, New York during the early 1980's. He later gained experience as an architectural conservator, preservation carpenter, and project and site manager for preservation projects.

Simon holds a BA degree in Industrial Design from Ravensbourne College of Art in Kent, England and a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1994, he joined the faculty of the Building Preservation and Restoration program at Belmont Technical College, Ohio as Associate Professor and co-directed the program until joining the AIBPT in the spring of 2000. As director, Simon instructs students in a strongly practical curriculum of building preservation classes, and leads a series of popular preservation workshops held in Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma.

He is a native of Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands located off the French coast in the English Channel.
