JACOB ARNDT
ARCHITECTURAL STONE CARVER &
PRESERVATION CONSULTANT

Jacob Arndt is an architectural stone carver whose works grace buildings in the U.S. and Europe. Since 1979 he has worked on historic landmark projects turning architectural stone columns, carving ornamental brackets or fireplace surrounds, and producing park and garden sculptures on commission. Arndt has Georgia marble balusters in the Minnesota State Capitol building; a fluted column of Portland stone in the British Museum; and has contributed work in limestone to numerous landmark buildings. As a preservation consultant, he has prepared matching mortar and replaced stone in many of Frank Lloyd Wright's midwest structures, including the main house and studio at Talieson, Spring Green, Wisconsin. He is now teaching and offers classes in the art of stone lettering, relief carving and sculpture held in Normandy, France. He offers a second series of workshops covering traditional materials and methods of pre-industrial construction. His emphasis in these latter workshops is the replacement of materials without resorting to faux materials, as well as providing technical support in lime mortars and plasters to builders and architects. He is currently teaching and working in both the U.S. and France.
